The National Association of Local Council publishes the use of the three C’s campaign (Calm, Cushion, Call) to ensure everyone knows what to do if they see someone having a seizure. I was asked what to do if I have a seizure. I like the 3 Cs!
Stay CALM and stay with the person who is having a seizure.
CUSHION their head with a coat or cardigan to stop them from injuring themselves. But only do it if it safe for You. It is important to understand, that a person that is in a middle of a seizure, can be stronger then you can imagine.
CALL to action. Note only call an ambulance if the seizure does not stop after five minutes. Most seizures are self-limiting and will stop of their own accord within a couple of minutes. Be careful to understand the persons wishes. It might seem like a long time, in the moment, so be sure. If you call too some, then a very expensive and unnecessary hospital visit is as devastating to the person having the seizure the seizure itself. The person will need to be looked after until a friend or family member is called, but they may not need an ambulance.
