I have been struggling to keep my living spaces both at home and at work clean. It has been overwhelming, and I often struggled and then gave up on myself and the space.
To overcome this struggle, I found that listening to folks to buckle down and just take a day and get through it or you just need to have mind over matter was not helpful. Instead I found setting a goal of 30 minutes a day and part of that cleaning is to declutter, was much easier. Once the time went off, I finish up, and started again the next day.
As part of the declutter, was to create a donation box. Note: The box was also a donation. My goal was to have a box filled every week, and I have a set day and means in which to donate the the entire box. The box was located in a central location in the house so in every direction, it was a short distance to put the items that I wanted to donate.
The second tip was to declutter a surface each day, whether it was a table, a bedside table or a dresser. If you don’t have anything on the dresser, it’s easy to keep it clean.
The third tip would be to make sure your cleaning supplies are not too heavy or hard to move around. You also want any automated cleaning device to be plugged in and fully charged. Set some alarms and reminders.
A fourth tip is to set some rewards for yourself after finishing a project set some fun rewards for yourself whether it’s a treat from Starbucks or a gift on Amazon make these treats something you can’t buy until you’ve completed your goals. They should not be a punishment but more of a reward.
A fifth hack/tip is to use cleaning supplies in a alternate fashion like a swifter on the floor can also be used for your walls. You can even sit and be comfortable near a wall and clean your walls successfully.
By being clever, using your time wisely and by cleaning and scheduling time every day instead of trying to do it all at once can really make a difference. Cleaning can become more manageable, and less stressful. You might find an increased energy level, just by having a routine and endurance with these activities. We might be able to also use apps like ourhome to share and dividing conqueror activities with your family members and friends.
Now that I’m being more strategic, focusing on decluttering and having a schedule for cleaning every day, it has helped me destress. It has also helped me keep up with my house cleaning and chores without being overwhelmed. I am also more mindful of not buying trinkets that are not going to bring me joy and other items that will just pile up as clutter down the road. My rewards have been more consumables and fun activities rather than material activities that that might end up in the donation pile within weeks, months or years.
The biggest tip is to make sure to be safe when cleaning and modify how you clean so you do not get hurt. Don’t keep cleaning traditionally if you think you’re going to fall or if you’re cleaning supplies are too heavy. This might require different cleaning supplies to be safe and it might require some creativity, but there are so many YouTube videos and help online. Reach out for help. It is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. don’t give up. Hope you can declutter your home and make for a healthy and happy workspace that works for you and your loved ones.
